Saturday Night Serenade–Blast From the Past

Ever hear a song you haven’t even thought about in years, and you think, OMG, this song is AWESOME?

That’s tonight’s serenade. I’ve made no secret that boy bands are my guilty pleasure. I heard this Backstreet Boys classic the other day and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. Because it’s amazing, that’s why. Okay, granted, the video is cheesy as hell, but if you just close your eyes…

Speaking of cheesy videos (and because you groaned when you realized I was posting boy bands this week–you know you did, LOL), I decided to include a second 90s gem from BSB rivals NSYNC.

Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. Regardless of whether your area is reopened yet, I hope you’re staying in and safe. Be sure to hug those you love.

Happy Saturday night!

Saturday Night Serenade–A Cool Vibe

Okay, sure. He’s a reality television talent show winner. And a boy-band graduate. But Harry Styles has an undeniably cool vibe, and if anyone can move on from insane pop culture royalty (like Justin Timberlake, maybe) to a real adult music career, my money’s on him.

I’m digging Watermelon Sugar. It’s quirky and weird, but resistance is futile. You know you love it, too.

I’m also including this snippet from his recent appearance on Howard Stern where he pays homage to Peter Gabriel’s 80s classic MTV anthem, Sledgehammer. I think you’ll like it.

And just because I love you, don’t miss Harry’s performance with Stevie Nicks at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, where he stepped in for the late, great Tom Petty on Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.

Not mentioning the ‘C’ word tonight. It’s everywhere, and there should be at least one place where you can just chill and forget about the world for a while. That being said, stay safe, be healthy, and at the very least, tell your loved ones how much they mean to you.

I’m still hugging Mr. R because, well, that’s just how I roll. 😉

Happy Saturday night!

Saturday Night Serenade–Happy Halloween!

It’s that time of year again, time for ghosts, ghouls, and goblins to come knocking on doors, panhandling for sugary treats. Okay, there are probably precious few ghosts, ghouls, and goblins these days. More likely, we’ll see Spiderman, Buzz Lightyear, and Baby Shark.

I’m excited because for the first time in years, we might actually have trick-or-treaters. Our old house was in a rural equestrian community–we haven’t had any Halloween visitors in eight years.

And while I’m not digging out my ghost stories this year, I am sharing one of my favorite Halloween songs (okay, the song isn’t really Halloween-y, but that video, though). Who doesn’t love the Backstreet Boys all dressed up for Halloween?

What’s on your go-to spooky playlist?

I wish you and yours a very Happy Halloween! Be sure to hug the ones you love. Happy Saturday night!

P.S. If you’re interested in the ghost stories, this LINK will get you started. 😉

Saturday Night Serenade–Guilty Pleasure

I’ve confessed it before. My guilty pleasure is boy bands. It’s a sickness, I know.

But when I heard about King Calaway, a country boy band, I was IN. Six good-looking young men with the harmony of angels? Oh, hell, yeah!

This video has them performing a cover from one of my all-time favorite bands, The Eagles. It’s a set they did at the Grand Old Opry, and they’re joined by the legendary Ricky Skaggs.

I know what you’re thinking. You hate country music.

Doesn’t matter. If you’re ever in Nashville and you have the chance, you MUST go to the Opry, if only for the cultural experience. It’s amazing.

Tonght, I hope you enjoy this new take on Seven Bridges Road, and I hope you’re open to giving King Calaway a chance. It will be our little secret, lol.

Have a wonderful weekend, and be sure to hug those you love.

Happy Saturday night!

PS: It’s my birthday this week. My Love surprised me with tickets to Les Miserables down in Ft. Lauderdale. We have discovered that while he thought he was buying them through Ticketmaster, he inadvertently used a sketchy site instead. There is the better-than-even chance we’ll get down there only to discover that our tickets are bogus. Keep your fingers crossed. We’ll let you know…

Saturday Night Serenade–Guilty Pleasures Make Me Happy

Hello, July!
In the US this week, we’ll celebrate with cookouts and fireworks, family and friends.

There’s something about summer that makes me feel nostalgic.  When I was a kid, I didn’t worry about a thing in the summer.  I ran barefoot all over the neighborhood, went on picnics, climbed trees, and played outside until well after dark.

Summer has its own soundtrack.  Those oldies that bring back the good old days.  I’ve often confessed that boy bands are my guilty pleasure.  They just make me happy.

So when this musical moment happened this week, I was thrilled.  Jimmy Fallon’s classroom instruments segments are my favorites.  Add the Backstreet Boys, and I’m in heaven.

Out in the world at large, this has been a rough couple of weeks.  It seems like everyone has lost their mother-loving minds.  So I needed this dose of happiness.  I hope you enjoy it, too.

Be sure to hugs those you love.  And recognize that everyone else just wants to do the same.

Happy Saturday night!

P.S. I couldn’t resist this bonus track.
