Saturday Night Serenade–Blast From the Past

Ever hear a song you haven’t even thought about in years, and you think, OMG, this song is AWESOME?

That’s tonight’s serenade. I’ve made no secret that boy bands are my guilty pleasure. I heard this Backstreet Boys classic the other day and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. Because it’s amazing, that’s why. Okay, granted, the video is cheesy as hell, but if you just close your eyes…

Speaking of cheesy videos (and because you groaned when you realized I was posting boy bands this week–you know you did, LOL), I decided to include a second 90s gem from BSB rivals NSYNC.

Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. Regardless of whether your area is reopened yet, I hope you’re staying in and safe. Be sure to hug those you love.

Happy Saturday night!

Saturday Night Serenade–The 80s Are Calling

Have you read the news? In the Soho Tribune? Or anywhere else?

Four of the most iconic 80s bands are coming together for the Stadium Tour of a lifetime. Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts will be touring together beginning in late June.

The nearest they’re coming to us is down at the Hardrock Stadium (home of the Dolphins) in Miami. If you click the link above, you can see if they’re coming anywhere close to you.

For tonight’s serenade, I’m choosing one favorite from each band. While I’ve never seen the Crue or Def Leppard, I have seen Joan Jett several times and she still kicks ass.

But one of my most surprising experiences was seeing Poison a few years ago. If they’re left over from some of the cheesier 80s moments, nobody told them. They get out and absolutely rock it on stage, and I’d go see them again in a heartbeat.

If the tour is not going to be close enough for you to go see them, or you’re like me, broke AF, maybe these blasts from the past will give you a little taste of the show.

I hope you’re having a great weekend. Be sure to hug those you love.

Happy Saturday night!

Saturday Night Serenade–Dance the Night Away

Have you noticed that they’re playing the best music now all over town? The grocery store, the car dealership… Maybe it’s just that I’m getting old, LOL.

I just remember shopping with my mom when I was a kid and all they played was elevator music. And my mom used to listen to Perry Como and stuff in the morning while we got ready for school.

This week, Mr. R and I were running errands and I heard this song. I can’t remember the last time I heard Van Halen’s Dance the Night Away. What a great song. We even commented on how they were playing awesome music. The young man assisting us just nodded blankly.

That’s okay, Skippy. In the age of Auto-Tune, you just don’t know any better.

Tonight, I hope you’re enjoying the countdown to summer. I, for one, can’t wait. I love summer!

Be sure to hug the ones you love. Happy Saturday night!

P.S. I’m leaving you with my all-time favorite Van Halen tune in tonight’s two-fer. ❤

Saturday Night Serenade–Blast From The Past

Tonight’s two-fer serenade is a blast from the past.  Way back in the mid-1980s, I was living in Mississippi, working as a newly-minted kindergarten teacher at a little school out in the countryside outside of Jackson.  Crop-dusters used to buzz the school as they treated the farm fields across the street.  True story.

On that long drive back and forth, more often than not, five boys from New Jersey kept me company.  At home, I’m sure I wore out the grooves on Slippery When Wet.  You remember LPs, right?  No?  Go sit down before you hurt yourself.  The grown-ups are talking.

I’m thrilled that Bon Jovi is nominated for the latest class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  The last time I checked, they were vastly ahead of the other very worthy nominees.  If you haven’t voted there’s still time.

I hope tonight finds you relaxing with your favorite people.  Mr. R and I are out to a Halloween party.  Maybe they’ll play a little Bon Jovi…

Hug those you love.  Happy Saturday night!
