I’m Just Too Impatient

Back in April I mentioned in a post that Mr. R. and I had stumbled upon a unique rose bush on clearance at Lowe’s.  The reason it was on clearance was that it was beat to all heck.  According to the tag, it’s a Blue Girl, a blue hybrid tea rose.  We brought it home, re-potted it, trimmed off all the damaged bits, and waited to see what would happen.

A couple of weeks ago two buds appeared and we’ve been on “bloom watch” ever since.  Today, one of them has finally opened a little.  I should probably wait until it opens more, but refer to the title of this post.

And, I know.  It looks pink, not blue.  It’s a little hard to tell but the flowers are not plain pink, I’d describe them as more of a pinkish periwinkle.

Anyway, I’m thrilled that we were able to nurse the thing back to health.  (When I say we, I pretty much mean Mr. R.)  Blue Girl joined our other two rose bushes and we also have buds on the yellow one and the pink one.  I’ve already told Mr. R. that I’d like another couple of rose bushes in different colors from the ones we already have.  It could be an addiction.

  1. I love rose bushes! Someday when I have my own place, I want lots and lots of rose bushes and not red ones. Different colored ones!

  2. We have about a half-dozen different ones, a huge red one out back and five smaller not-reds up front. I definitely see a blue hue to your new baby! It’s too soon here for ours to be blooming, but we’ll have a white, a yellow, and a peach among them. You’ve got me all excited for them. Our peony was bursting today. Glorious.

  3. On the way to work, I bike by wild rose bushes and the smell is so delightful. Something to look forward to each Spring.
Having my own? The fire escape wouldn’t do them well…XO

      1. Herbs, tomatoes, geraniums, petunias and marigolds on my fire escape — something that can take the wind and sun, too. XO
